FAQ

What is the dress code?

It’s “business casual meets summer comfortable”! That means: leave the shorts and flip-flops behind, along with the ties and blazers. Think sleeveless, capris, khakis, polos. Most important: comfortable shoes! And if your Immersive Experience is outdoors, remember a hat, sunscreen, water bottle or whatever you might want with you for that. Jeans are definitely acceptable for that part of the day.

Wait, didn’t you mention a headshot booth?

Yes! There will be a headshot booth in the Be Outstanding zone of the Connect Lounge. If you want to bring something specific to wear for that, add it to your packing list. The headshot booth will be open Monday from 6:30-9:30pm and Tuesday from 7:30am-5:30pm.

What else should I pack?

JPRO19 will be mostly swag-free, so don’t forget your favorite bag, notebook, water bottle, pen, and whatever else you might want with you during sessions of JPRO19. If your Immersive Experience is outdoors, remember a hat, sunscreen, water bottle, umbrella and/or poncho, or whatever you might want with you for that.

What’s the deal with meals?

MONDAY: The conference begins at 2 on Monday but we want you to have an easy time finding something for lunch before your Immersive Experience. There will be food trucks parked nearby and we are providing vouchers to help cover the cost (get yours when you register!). One of the food trucks will be kosher. Dinner will be served at the Opening Bash.

TUESDAY: Breakfast and lunch will be served at the Cobo Center in the Be Nourished Zone - all kosher. Dinner is on your own, so join with your delegation to eat together or check out Chef Cari’s Kosher Food Truck, which will be parked at the Spirit of Detroit Plaza! You also have the option of purchasing a kosher boxed dinner (be in touch by July 31 if you want that and haven’t ordered it yet). Walk over to Qzine for dessert (pareve/dairy free) and drinks from 8-10.

WEDNESDAY: breakfast and lunch will be served at the Cobo Center in the Be Nourished Zone - all kosher. Lunch will be available to eat in or take with you on the road.

When do I sign up for sessions?

Most sessions do not require registration and you can walk in and participate. There are only a few exceptions:

  1. Immersive Experiences - you must choose one of these in advance, and there is no other programming happening concurrently. Email Lauren if you need to check on or change your choice.
  2. Master Classes - these require a commitment to attend both parts, and will happen at the same time as many other options on Tuesday. All Master Classes are currently full with waiting lists, so if you signed up but aren’t sure you will attend the full three hours, please email us so an eager student can take your seat.
  3. WellAdvised Live - want 45 minutes of reliable, smart professional advice? You can sign up on Monday night at the Opening Bash for a session with a WellAdvised Live advisor. Find it in the Be Advised zone of the Connect Lounge.
  4. Want to connect one-on-one with a scholar? You can sign up on Monday night at the Opening Bash for a session with one of the scholars. Find it in the Be Advised zone of the Connect Lounge.

What is the cancellation policy?

As noted on the registration page, the cancellation deadline was Friday, July 12th, so refunds can no longer be issued.

When and where can I register?

Registration will be at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center from 10am-5pm on Monday August 12th. If you aren’t staying at the hotel, drop by for registration and then head over to the food trucks and the Cobo Center to meet for your Immersive Experience. If you’re arriving later, registration will be available at the Cobo Center beginning at 6:30pm.

I’m staying at the Marriott Renaissance Center, so what do I do with my luggage when I arrive?

Your room may or may not be ready when you arrive, so after you check in to the hotel, you can leave your luggage with the bell service there (they’ll be prepared for all of us!). Make sure you have everything on hand for your Immersive Experience, and leave the rest - you’ll definitely be able to settle into your room after you get back (and before the Opening Bash).

Where can I park?

Parking at the Marriott Renaissance Center is valet only. You may park on the Cobo Center Roof parking for $15. Here are other parking options nearby.

Can I find out who is attending before the start of the conference?

Yes, by downloading the app! You can edit your profile, chat with other attendees, plan a meetup, and see the schedule!

When does JPRO19 end?

The closing session will wrap at 1:00 on Wednesday, August 14th. A buffet style lunch will be available from 1:00 to 2:00 and there will be an option to pack a boxed lunch if you are in a hurry. Safe travels!

I’m arriving to town a little bit early (or leaving a little bit after the conference ends). What should I do with my spare time?

Take the free 2-hour walking tour of Detroit! Read more about it (and some other ideas) here. (If you’re interested in the tour, don’t forget to sign up!)

Is there a designated private location for pumping or nursing parents?

There sure is! There are two nursing pods located at the Cobo Center, just one flight up from the JPRO19 Connect Lounge. The code to unlock them is 7254.

What is the code of conduct?

You can find the JPRO19 Code of Conduct here. Please review the Code of Conduct in advance.
